Gallery overview
Galerie l’Angélus specialises in paintings of the 19th century Barbizon School in France. Situated on the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau, the village of Barbizon was the cradle of an artistic movement which lasted for almost half a century and opened the way for Impressionism. Attracted by the beautiful natural environment, a community of artists left their studios to paint outside, from nature. The gallery is situated in the former studio of Jean-François Millet, and named after his famous painting “L’Angélus”.
