Kai-Yin Lo, a world-renowned jewellery and accessories designer based in Hong Kong, studied history, covering both Eastern and Western cultures, at Cambridge and London Universities.

She is the author and editor of five books on topics ranging from Chinese furniture, house and home to the vernacular living environment and design culture.

“Bright as Silver, White as Snow: Chinese White Ceramics from Late Tang to Yuan Dynasty” published to accompany the exhibition of her collection of white and qingbai wares at the Denver Art Museum in 1998, not only chronicles her fine collection but also includes important essays by leading international scholars, throwing fresh light on the developmental and aesthetic aspects of white ceramics, as well as the material culture and social fabric of Chinese society of the era.

Kai-Yin is the recipient of the Hong Kong Design Centre’s prestigious award “World’s Leading Chinese Designer 2007”; and a Silver Bauhinia Star from the Hong Kong Government for her contribution to culture and the creative industries.

She is a member of the Global Council of the Asia Society; the Museum of Art and Design, New York; and the Asia-Pacific Art Acquisition Committee, Tate Modern. Kai-Yin Lo is a Visiting Professor of the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, Beijing.
