One important aspect in the study and appreciation of antique weapons is the techniques and methods for their decoration.

These techniques were intended to add to the aesthetic value of functional weapons like swords and daggers, either for daily or ceremonial use. Different groups of artisans skilled in their respective areas were commissioned by their patrons to create weapons that could meet not only the utilitarian purpose but also statements on the status and aesthetic taste of their owners.

The lecture will discuss the different techniques used to decorate some of the elaborate swords and daggers once owned by dignitaries of Eastern origins dated from the last 300 years.
