Fine Art Asia Pavilion at Art Basel Hong Kong
‘Traverse: Once Modern’
19-23 May 2021
Fine Art Asia 2021, Asia’s leading international fine art fair, is pleased to announce its participation in Art Basel Hong Kong 2021. The Fine Art Asia Pavilion will be launched at Art Basel Hong Kong as a special feature of the show, which takes place from 19 – 23 May at Booth 1C32, Hall 1C, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Fine Art Asia has earned an international reputation for presenting museum-quality fine art exhibited by world-renowned galleries from Asia, Europe and the USA, providing a unique platform for cross-collecting of traditional and contemporary works of art. This spring, Fine Art Asia is delighted to present a group exhibition entitled ‘Traverse: Once Modern’, set in the Fine Art Asia Pavilion at Art Basel Hong Kong.
Co-curated by 8 prominent galleries specialising in different aspects of historical art, ‘Traverse: Once Modern’ presents a journey from the distant past to the mid-20th century, creating dialogue with its legacy through the lens of Art Basel. Antiquities, which were once considered contemporary art in their respective periods, through time, have evolved into objects not only of beauty but also of historical value. ‘Traverse: Once Modern’ aims to recontextualise classical art that seamlessly blends in today’s environment, interspersed among the modern and contemporary works at Art Basel.
8 participating galleries include David Aaron (London), specialising in Greek, Roman Egyptian and Islamic arts; Chelesa Art (Hong Kong/Shanghai), exhibiting Chinese ink paintings by famous Chinese ink masters, including Tang Yin (1470-1524), Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715) and Pan Tianshou (1897-1971); Ever Arts Gallery (Hong Kong), showcasing classical Chinese furniture and scholar’s objects; Andy Hei Ltd (Hong Kong), presenting Chinese antiques and works of art; Maria Kiang Chinese Art (Hong Kong), specialising in Chinese scholar’s objects; Rossi & Rossi (London/Hong Kong), specialising in Himalayan and Chinese works of art; Wui Po Kok (Hong Kong), presenting Chinese ceramics and works of art; and Yumekoubou (Kyoto/Hong Kong), exhibiting exquisite Japanese bamboo art by the four generations of Chikuunsai.
Andy Hei, Founder & Director of Fine Art Asia, said,
“Following the astonishing success of Fine Art Asia and Hong Kong Spotlight by Art Basel last year, we are delighted to present Fine Art Asia Pavilion at Art Basel Hong Kong 2021, which I believe is a sparkle to the art market in such a challenging time. We hope our audience could experience pleasantness and be inspired through ‘Traverse: Once Modern’, an intriguing journey from the distant past to modern days.”
